Senior Manager, Data Engineering - Vietnam

The Senior Manager, Data Engineering, will oversee and lead the Data Engineering team in operating the company wide data platform. They will have a deep experience with large-scale distributed systems from design to deploy. They are an expert in Big Data and data platforms and will possess excellent organizational, leadership, decision making, and communication skills. They must have a passion to lead and deliver.     Manage the team members and projects of the data engineering team and ensure delivery in a timely manner while meeting the requirements set forth by the business. Uses expertise in multiple areas to interpret internal and external business issues and recommend solutions based on best practices. Solves complex problems and takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Manage a team of data engineers. Facilitates communication upward and across project team including project status and technical information. Ensures projects are completed according to product specifications and are properly documented. Responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews of data engineers. Implement product features and refine specifications with our Data scientists, Data Analysts and Data Architects. Resolve operational issues by collaborating with upstream support groups and other engineering teams. Ensures projects are completed according to product specifications and are properly documented.

    • Works with subordinates to develop projects, goals and objectives, mentors through task execution.
    • Success evaluated based on the overall review of unit performance.
    • Provides direct supervision to individual contributors.
    • 50-60% management, 40-50% work product.

    •  Decisions impact attainment of short-term goals.
    • Sees multiple outcomes and determines appropriate course of action.
    • Failure to achieve results will cause critical delays.
    • Must foresee issues and creatively address in a pro-active manner.

    • Determines subordinate goals and objectives.
    • Establishes and maintains unit policies and best practices.
    • Works on issues of diverse scope which requires an understanding of the business.
    • Executes on strategic goals and objectives ensuring alignment with the department’s strategic plan.
    • Administer unit budget.

    • Contributes to strategic planning for the unit.
    • Inspires others to perform at the highest level.
    • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to deliver consistent, aligned business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

    • Facilitates communication upward and across project team including project status and technical information.
    • Ensures projects are completed according to product specifications and are properly documented.
    • Implement product features and refine specifications with our Data scientists, Data Analysts and Data Architects.
    • Resolve operational issues by collaborating with upstream support groups and other engineering teams.
    • Anticipates talent needs, allowing team members to provide input, and leads effort to find the right resources.
    • Manages performance of people managers and individual contributors. (KPI)
    • Performance and efficiency of the code delivery by the entire team, including stories completed , story points delivered and assigned goals during goal setting.

Education

    • Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience

    • Requires 7-9 years of experience.
    • Prefer informal or formal people leadership and/or mentoring experience.

Physical Demands

    • General office environment. Moderate levels of stress may occur at times. No special physical demands required.
    • Role requires less than 10% travel.
