Citi is looking for a Senior Application Database Administrator to take ownership of mission-critical Oracle database environments supporting live market data operations within the Markets business unit. In this role, you will design, develop, tune, and sustain high-availability Oracle databases that financial stakeholders depend on daily for time-sensitive, high-value functions. Your work will directly shape the stability, performance, and long-term technical direction of one of Citi's most data-intensive platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize Oracle database schemas and data models across non-production and production environments to ensure continuous high availability and peak performance for market-critical applications.

  • Monitor database health proactively using AWR reports and advisory tools, diagnosing and resolving issues before they impact business operations.

  • Lead database performance tuning efforts across large-scale Oracle environments, applying advanced troubleshooting techniques to resolve complex and time-sensitive problems.

  • Architect and implement data management strategies covering migration, masking, archival, and capacity planning to support evolving application and business requirements.

  • Coordinate across application development, DBA, and Oracle vendor teams to deliver timely resolution of critical or previously unseen database issues.

  • Evaluate and introduce new Oracle features, tools, and technologies to continuously improve database stability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

  • Define and enforce database standards and best practices, providing technical advisory to engineering and delivery teams across the organization.

  • Assess and mitigate database-related risks by identifying, prioritizing, and implementing controls in alignment with release and environment management processes.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 6 or more years of hands-on experience in database development, design, data modelling, performance tuning, and troubleshooting across large-scale applications.

  • 5 or more years of deep, applied experience with Oracle databases, including schema design, query optimization, and environment management in enterprise-grade production systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and implement successful technology projects, balancing functional and non-functional requirements across delivery lifecycles.

  • Practical experience with Oracle GoldenGate for data replication and real-time data integration across distributed environments.

  • Working knowledge of Unix and shell scripting to support database automation, environment management, and operational tasks.

  • Experience with Agile and Scrum delivery frameworks and familiarity with CI/CD tooling including Jenkins, Bitbucket, Jira, and deployment automation platforms.

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • Exposure to modern data technologies including microservices architecture, big data platforms, Hadoop, and cloud storage solutions such as AWS S3.

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted tooling and techniques applied within data engineering or database management contexts.

  • Experience providing cross-team technical advisory, including engagement with external vendors and platform teams to define standards and drive resolution of complex issues.

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.

What We Offer

Joining Citi means taking on a high-impact role within a global financial institution where your technical decisions carry real weight. You will work alongside experienced engineering and data professionals on systems that serve critical business functions at scale, with access to the tools, resources, and leadership exposure needed to advance your career.

  • Hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely, giving you flexibility alongside meaningful in-person collaboration.

  • Ownership of technically challenging problems within a high-availability, mission-critical environment that directly supports global market operations.

  • Access to continuous learning and development resources to deepen your Oracle expertise and expand into emerging technologies such as cloud and AI tooling.

  • Exposure to strategic technology decisions at the intersection of data infrastructure and financial markets, with influence beyond your immediate team.
