Trainee Information Security Analyst

My Role Overview – What can I expect?

Target needs to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, availability and enforce non-repudiation, authentication whilst maintaining the privacy and security of the of it’s information assets.

The role is an entry level position for someone who wants to begin their career in Operational Information Security. You will develop skills on the job as you work and will be paired with a number of experienced information security analysts to defer to on a daily basis.

This role will require an individual who is willing to learn and develop their skills outside of daily activities and time will be allocated on a weekly basis to afford this.

This role involves triaging information security incidents, requests, events and alerts and then escalating to the necessary technical resource.

My Team – What’s it like being a part of the team?

This role is a new role for the Information Security Team and is designed to develop an individual with the necessary skills which Target require. An individual will be expected to be independently competent within a 2 year period. Formal training will be provided after the probation period in ITIL and entry level cyber security.

My Accountabilities – What will I be doing?

A basic knowledge of Information Technology will be required for this role, however as a trainee the focus is on aptitude and willingness to learn as you begin your career.

You will be required to undertake process based activities such as:

• Triage of Information Security incidents and requests with escalation to relevant technical resource
• Review events and alerting from data loss prevention platforms
• Create and update basic process documentation
• Create and collate audit evidence
• Follow process to undertake daily checks
• Review quarantined email for release

You will be required to create and update process documentation for processes within your role as they mature, this will be a supported activity by the wider team.

You will be expected to escalate requests, incidents and problems to senior members of the team.

As you progress in your role you will be expected to gain the necessary skills and experience to validate and provide discovered vulnerabilities within technology platforms and provide recommendations for mitigating actions.

Requirements

You’re someone who is:

• A keen independent learner with a passion for technology and information security
• Methodical and organised – you will have multiple actions open at any one time and you will need to prioritise based on criticality, supported by mentors and the wider team.
• Flexible and adaptable as you will be using new systems and required to learn new interfaces, read documentation, and undertake training courses to familiarise yourself with the tooling to extract the greatest business benefit.
• Able to clearly communicate in spoken and written word.

You’re someone who has:

• A basic understanding of Information Technology with a working knowledge of Windows, Linux and networking.
• A good working knowledge of Microsoft Suite of applications is required, you will need to be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio as you create Process Documentation
