Automation Engineer -- San Antonio

Owns complex automations that enable Rackspace to better serve our customers. Applies creative problem-solving techniques to identify the source of problems, while at the same time keeping the customer aware of every step along the way. An Automation Engineer is expected to use initiative and standard programming practices to ensure the stability and security of Rackspace’s automated solutions. Key Responsibilities:·       Proposes and implements system enhancements that will improve the capabilities, performance, and reliability of the automations. ·       Coordinates the order and execution of the development, upgrading, monitoring, testing, and servicing the automations.   ·       Defines, designs, and implements automated solutions.  ·       Builds and supports automations for deployment, diagnostics and remediations run on customer devices including bulk and on demand solutions for end user use. ·       Designs and develops automation scripts and programs in support of Rackspace and its customers.  ·       Create a series of automated actions that will allow for faster deployments and service restoration for the customer. ·       Develop against current versions of the platforms supported by Rackspace. ·       Formulates new and alternate ideas, approaches, and designs to evolve own feature area or to solve problems encountered in own feature area.  ·       Focuses on a specific feature area or component.  ·       Influences functionalities that make broad contribution to our product and service offerings.  Experience:·       5-years of experience in system administration or related field with advanced knowledge of Network fundamentals, including diagnostics with OS system tools. ·       Uses skills as a seasoned experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways.  ·       Advanced knowledge of server DNS, SMTP, and TCP/IP.  ·       Advanced knowledge of DNS, including diagnostics with system tools.  ·       Continually expands knowledge in the areas of new developments and trends; may make recommendations to management on desirable additions and developments. ·       Must be detailed in documenting information and practice good follow-through techniques. ·       Excellent problem-solving abilities, coupled with a desire to take on responsibility. ·       Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills; bilingual skills is a plus. ·       Ability to communicate technical info and ideas so others will understand. ·       Ability to make appropriate decisions considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions.  ·       Good ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in order to maintain required productivity levels.  ·       Due to the 24x7 operations of the business, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, holidays, etc.  ·       Ability to successfully work and promote inclusiveness in small groups. ·       Ability to provide FANATICAL support.·       Self-driven with the ability to manage the position without direct supervision. Education and Certifications:·       High School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED) required.  Comprehensive Benefits:Rackspace Benefits for eligible Rackers include the following:·       Medical, Dental, and Vision·       Paid Time Off, Paid Voting Time, Paid Volunteer Time, and Paid Birthday Time Off·       Matching 401K after 30 days, with full vestment your first day·       Employee Stock Purchase Program·       Global Corporate Bonus Plan·       Extensive opportunities for continued professional development with training and certifications. Disclaimer:The above information has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this classification.
