The Role * Work with cross-function team to identify thermal plant model requirements for MIL/SIL/PIL/HIL/System Integration testing*Model in detail thermal components such as heat exchangers, compressors, pumps, valves, vehicle cabin using thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer principles using Simulink* Model in detail thermal behavior of Electrified systems such power electronics, motor-inverter, and other high voltage systems. * Assist in integrating the detailed models with SIL for thermal controls feature verification and validation* Translate the detailed models to real-time Models to be deployed on Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL)* Interface with hardware & controls teams to adapt their models for HIL/SIL closed-loop feature testing* Work with requirement owners to establish validation metrics for thermal models* Validate component, sub-system or full thermal system model against actual vehicle data from field* Document and track modeling issues as appropriate. Participate in triaging of model issues with various teams to drive towards root cause identification and resolution* Implement modeling best practices to accelerate development and improve fidelity of models, including runtime performance optimization, model verification and validation* Help with scalability of model for new and upcoming products* Participate in the design of a world-class engineering effort to bring electric vehicles to a new level of refinement
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience modeling thermal components such as fans, pumps, fluid connections, heat sinks, heat exchangers, compressors, valves using Simulink or Sim-Scape and other specialized tools
- 2+ years of experience in real-time controls plant modeling for vehicle thermal systems and subsystems
- Extensive experience in electric vehicle thermal management and HVAC systems
- Extensive Experience in deriving ODEs for Heat transfer and thermodynamics
- Strong understanding and experience with the refrigeration cycle (p-h diagram)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Good understanding of MIL/SIL/PIL/HIL simulation methodologies
- Experience with modeling in scalable framework, Simulink libraries, re-usable components, model referencing etc.
- Knowledge of automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, UDS, and related tools to measure and command signals, though scripting or otherwise.
- Experience with revision control tools, such as Git or similar
- Willingness to learn new tools and modeling method
- Experience using real time HIL systems
- Working knowledge of electrified powertrains
Education Requirements:
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering with a focus in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
