This position requires an experienced professional with a strong research background in ESS and battery systems control algorithms, combined with a passion for developing mass-market software products. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.

You Will

    • Work in a dynamic, cross-functional team to advance our cutting-edge ESS and battery control strategy
    • Contribute to our world-acclaimed battery product for stationary energy storage systems and mass-market passenger vehicles
    • In conjunction with hardware and systems engineers, design and optimize ESS control algorithms for best system performance and cost savings in Python or MATLAB / Simulink
    • In conjunction with battery cell and algorithms engineers, develop battery models and algorithms for miscellaneous system optimizations in MATLAB / Simulink
    • Implement high-performance algorithms on embedded processors
    • In conjunction with battery test engineers, develop test plans to validate ESS and battery models and algorithms on HIL test platform
    • In conjunction with system integration engineers, develop integration test plan to validate models and controls in ESS hardware

You Bring

    • 5 years of excellent track record in developing control algorithms for battery energy storage systems, preferably on behind-the-meter applications
    • Good knowledge of distribution grids, distributed energy resources (DERs), and energy management systems
    • Knowledge of optimization models, optimal control and model predictive control
    • Knowledge of DERs communication protocols
    • Good software design principles
    • Strong ability to define technical problems and carry out research independently
    • Expertise in MATLAB and Simulink
    • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python
    • Advantageous:
    • Experience in modeling, control and testing Lithium-ion batteries
    • Experience in ESS system design and integration
    • Knowledge of utility communication protocols
    • Knowledge of electrochemistry
    • Working knowledge of power electronics control
    • Education Requirements:
    • MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering, PhD preferred
