Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.We are looking a Senior Tax Technical Analyst to assist our Tax Team in addressing the Tax Accounting issues facing a rapidly expanding software development group. Your primary role is to assist with the global tax accounting implementation process. You will play a critical role on Atlassian's operational tax team by helping to establish best practice in the ever changing tax world including policy and procedures. You will need to understand and educate the wider Finance team on tax aspects of projects. A lot of the work you will be doing has not been done before and your skill set will help shape the tax accounting issues that need to be handled by the Atlassian tax team. In this role you'll get to:
- Assist the Tax Technical Manager with the process implementation of global income tax accounting
- Assist the Tax Technical Manager to manage a full suite of assigned projects from initiation to completion
- Assist the Tax Technical Manager with M&A purchase accounting
- Maintain differences between the local and global tax accounting (accounting for 13 countries and growing!)
- Maintain and evolve SOX control requirements
- Assist with researching technical tax accounting matters and preparing the required documentation
- Assisting with research on international tax matters and monitor areas for potential tax accounting exposure
- Collaborate with internal and external advisors/stakeholders on technical matters and assigned projects
- Collaborate with other departments to assess the reporting implications of changes in tax laws / accounting standards, ensure compliance with new or amended law
- Monitor and assess the tax accounting impact of technical accounting amendments e.g. FASB, AASB, IFRS, EU on the group
- Support the global tax team that operates in many countries and making sure the tax accounting rules at both a global and local level are understood and being followed by key stakeholders
On the first day, we'll expect you to have:
- Proven work experience in tax effect accounting (commerce and/or chartered practice)
- Strong understanding and application of tax effect accounting principles under IFRS and US GAAP
- Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
- Strong tax compliance and legal research skills, including the interpretation of tax office rulings and provisions in income tax legislation
- Strong organisational skills, highly adaptable coupled with the ability to take initiative
- Effective problem solving, methodical, detail-oriented, and analytical, with the ability to manage cross-functional projects and collaborate with different individuals and functions across the organsation
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills
- Technologically savvy including extensive experience with Microsoft Excel (experience with NetSuite and Onesource preferred but not required), and AI programs such as Alteryx
