Senior Backend Engineer, Accessibility

This team builds and operates mature software systems to improve our trust posture. As an Engineer, you’ll be part of a team responsible for creating, implementing, monitoring, scaling, and optimizing the code that powers platform services.If you are a software developer interested in helping Atlassian achieve Accessibility at scale, this role is a rare opportunity to do just that!Your future teamThis is a remote team that writes backend services to support the product teams working to make Atlassian experiences accessible for everyone. What you'll do:

• Implement solutions that meet performance, scalability, reliability, high availability, and operation excellence goals
• Follow agile software development methodologies, such as CI/CD and ‘you build it, you run it’
• Understand system interdependencies and limitations in a microservice architecture
• Breakdown complex problems into simple, elegant solutions
• Grow other developers. Be a mentor and lead by example

Your background:

• Experience delivering high-quality code
• Bachelors/Masters degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 5+ years of software development experience
• Proficiency in any modern programming language (preferably Go or Python)
• Experience building APIs and associated authentication mechanisms
• Experience being a technical and project leader
• An interest in the accessibility field. Don't worry if you aren't an accessibility pro yet!

It’s great, but not required, if you have:

• Experience building software with a focus on operational excellence
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems using AWS or other cloud services
• Excellent interpersonal skills when working with both technical and non-technical audiences
• An understanding of how to use metrics to guide technical decisions
• Familiarity with measuring product accessibility and adherence to accessibility standards would be a huge bonus (but not a requirement)
