Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.To help our teams work together effectively, this role is fully remote, but requires you to be located close to (GMT+10) AEST.We're looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team, passionately focused on delivering creative improvements for our engineering team and cloud platform.You'll be part of the Continuous PaaS Recovery (CPR) Team and report to an Engineering Manager. The Continuous PaaS Recovery Team (CPR) team is part of the wider Atlassian Cloud Infrastructure organisation. We specialise in building and running the lowest level provisioning systems (Pillars) that construct the Atlassian Cloud Infrastructure Platform. We also specialise in monitoring and preventing potentially dangerous scenarios such as circular dependencies in infrastructure. These are mission critical services solving technically challenging problems over a wide domain.

What you'll do:

    • Drive large, complex projects autonomously, from technical design to launch
    • Tackle complex architecture challenges, apply architectural standards and start using them on new projects
    • Partner across engineering teams to tackle company-wide initiatives
    • Transfer your depth of knowledge from your current language to excel as a Senior Systems Engineer.
    • Lead code reviews & documentation as well as take on complex bug fixes, especially on high-risk problems
    • Mentor more junior engineers in the team to share learnings and build expertise

Your background:

    • 5+ years experience building and developing systems
    • Experience with one or more prominent languages such as Typescript, GoLang, or Python
    • Understanding of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS industry with hands-on experience with public cloud offerings (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure)
    • Experience in Infrastructure as Code (AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible)
    • Experience in observability solution (e.g. SignalFX, Splunk)
    • Deep level understanding and experience managing, troubleshooting and monitoring Linux servers
    • Knowledge of container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
    • Experience crafting and implementing well-tested, highly scalable and performant micro-services and/or other distributed systems
    • Practical knowledge of agile software development methodologies (e.g., XP, scrum, TDD, Mobbing)
    • Knowledge to evaluate trade-offs between correctness, robustness, performance, space and time
    • Considers the customer impact when making technical decisions
