Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.To help our teams work together effectively, you will be fully remote, but requires you to be located in Sydney, Australia timezone.With a sufficient timezone overlap with the team, we're able to hire eligible candidates for this role from any location in Australia and New Zealand.Your future teamWe're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a large 10-member engineering team within the Toolchain Foundations pillar. Toolchain Foundations is a strategic pillar under the Open DevOps department, working towards making toolchain management effortless and rewarding, so teams can focus on customer value . We will accelerate this mission with third parties by helping them build integrations faster, so that customers have a wide selection of third-party integrations available to expand their toolchains with the tools they love.You'll be building an effective team, empowering them to achieve their goals, and putting those goals into broader context. Your greatest responsibility will be to look after the individuals reporting to you, coaching and supporting them in their professional development, unlocking their potential, and challenging them to step outside their comfort zone to grow and excel.

What you'll do:

    • Coach engineers, helping them work as a team and to grow in their careers
    • Partner with your triad (design + PM) to collaborate on defining roadmaps
    • Contribute to strategy decisions as the engineering representative for your team
    • Promote cultural change through focus on technical excellence, quality and efficiency
    • Support teams in driving large projects with complex dependencies and multiple partners
    • Guide teams responsible for running key production services

Your background:

    • 5+ years experience building large-scale web software and operating it in production
    • Established experience leading a large development team
    • Adopter of Agile software development methodologies
    • Knowledge of distributed systems concepts, e.g. scaling, consistency, and availability tradeoffs
    • Familiarity with platform thinking to focus on usability for our internal customers
    • Experience balancing Ops and Development investment
    • Experience with large-scale distributed systems and microservices
    • Experience influencing teams outside your own organisation with data and insights
