Senior Engineering Manager - Multi-Tenancy Integrations

We're able to hire eligible candidates for this role from any location in East Coast Australia.Your future teamWe’re hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to join Tenant Platform, leading the Integrations squads. You will report to Head of Tenant Platform, and initially manage two development squads (growing to 3).When customers sign up for Atlassian products, our Provisioning team's platform microservices robustly orchestrate what needs to happen in product and platform systems for that product and customer.We are part of the Tenant Platform team, which enables multi tenancy in our cloud architecture. We provide a platform leveraged by all of Atlassian's products which provides creation of new tenancy at signup, management of the tenant lifecycle (licence changes, product suspension, deletion), and data residency. This blog talks about some of the Tenant Platform systems: https://www.atlassian.com/engineering/how-we-build-data-residency-for-atlassian-cloudWhen Atlassian launches new products or acquisitions on our platform, creates new regions or shared platform services, it’s very likely our Provisioning Integrations development squads are involved somewhere! We analyse and guide and implement new integrations in the Provisioning workflow system, guiding their requirements to make use of existing capabilities, or building new.Because we’re a central integration point, this is one of the busiest areas in the company, important to many programs and departments. We have a lot of impact, and an interesting delivery management challenge, as we balance this delivery against platform complexity and health, and feeding back new requirements into the adjacent platform teams.

What you'll do

• Take over the existing team as people manager, evolve it to a new multi-squad model with tech leads, evolve its culture, processes, and social connections
• Guide your development squads to deliver a busy roadmap of time-sensitive integration projects, numerous per quarter
• Work with stakeholders throughout the company, Technical Program Managers, your devs, and Principal/Architects to scope and negotiate the roadmap, aligning with other teams in Tenant Platform
• Maintain operational quality for new integrations - we run services in production
• Opportunity to also hire and lead Tenant Platform internal support team, a new capability we’re setting up

Your background

• 5+ years management experience in people leading, coaching and running teams
• Extensive delivery experience, streamlining busy roadmaps with priority conflicts
• Stakeholder management in a large organisation, able to solve difficult priority tradeoffs while maintaining relationships
• Familiarity with platform thinking, e.g. the tension between customisation vs standardisation, short-term delivery speed vs platform health. You know when to push back on overly complex solutions
• Background in backend software development and operating reliable systems in production
• AWS knowledge (SWF, SQS/SNS, Dynamo), or similar experience with other public cloud offerings (e.g. Google, Azure) - useful but not essential
• Your team works with Java, but experience is not a prerequisite and this isn’t a hands-on role
