With a timezone overlap with the team, we're able to hire eligible candidates for this role from any location in Australia and New Zealand.The RoleWe're hiring a Senior Data Platform Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Manager for Analytics Infrastructure. You are a an expert Cloud Engineer with exposure to big data systems or an expert Data Engineer who has managed enterprise scale data infrastructure or even a Software Engineer with a grounding in analytical data platforms. You are passionate about cloud engineering and have extensive AWS knowledge. You understand the fundamentals of big data systems and can describe common data stacks. You are equally comfortable writing Infrastructure as Code as you are managing big data systems . You will maintain our enterprise data platform with a focus on reliability, scalability and governance.The Analytics Infrastructure team is comprised of people with backgrounds in Data, Cloud Infrastructure and Software Engineering. With the spread of skills we oversee the core of Socrates, Atlassian's internal data lake. Our domain starts at the AWS network layer continuing through to the Databricks compute layer and everything else in between. We have just begun architecting our next-gen internal data platform. This is an enormous initiative and unique opportunity within Australia, you will be part of the core build team.Enablement is a big part of this role. You understand that a dedicated Platform team can have multiplicative impact on an organisation through intelligent tooling and automation . Your background
- 5+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering/DevOps/SRE/Infrastructure/SWE role with relevant exposure to the Data Ecosystem
- OR; experience managing modern enterprise scale analytical data systems
- Expert AWS operator
- Experience building applications in one or more languages (Python, Java, Kotlin)
- Understanding of classical big data concepts and solutions
- Experience with Terraform
- Experience with CICD, Docker and build systems
- Degree in Computer Science, EE, or related STEM discipline
- Experience with any of the following Spark, Databricks
