Senior, Accounting Research and Policy (Remote - Texas)

The Senior, Accounting Research & Policy will participate in researching and documenting technical accounting analyses and disclosure requirements of complex transactions, documenting and maintaining accounting policies, and monitoring and implementing new accounting standards. A successful candidate will have an ability to thrive in an environment of rapid change, work effectively within cross-functional teams, be highly resourceful, willing to learn, able to deliver strong results, and possess a strong set of communication and analytical skills.Preferred location for this role is in San Antonio, TX, but candidates from any Texas-based location may be considered to work remotely with travel to San Antonio on an as needed basis.

Primary Responsibilities

    • Assist with technical accounting research and prepare accounting documentation on a variety of technical accounting concepts, including business combinations, internal-use software cost capitalization, and leasing.
    • Responsible for remaining current on and documenting new accounting standards, considering the relevant accounting literature and the effect of the transaction on the company’s financial statements.
    • Assist with implementation projects for new accounting standards, including the new financial instruments and lease accounting standards.
    • Assist in review of contracts, including leases, financing agreements, significant vendor arrangements and acquisitions, to identify potential accounting issues.
    • Assist in the development of new accounting policies and review/update existing polices.
    • Prepare impairment tests quarterly, annually and as required of the Company’s consolidated tangible and intangible assets.
    • Coordinate with external auditors to provide requested documentation regarding financial statements and accounting treatment for specific transactions.
    • Collaborate with Financial Reporting team on preparation of financial statement disclosures
    • Work with and respond to accounting inquiries from the organization’s global accounting organization.
    • Ad hoc requests and projects as necessary

Knowledge

    • Advanced knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
    • Strong understanding of technical accounting including SEC and SOX reporting requirements.
    • Strong time management, communications, presentation, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to identify and resolve complex problems.
    • Ability to interact with senior internal and external personnel.
    • Uses skills as an experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures.
    • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections. Ability to adapt and learn and apply professional concepts.
    • Ability to communicate financial information and ideas so others will understand.
    • Ability to propose solutions considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions.
    • Ability to lead special projects from beginning to end and facilitate meetings.
    • Detail oriented.

Requirements

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline required
    • Typically requires 6-9 years of professional accounting experience, including a minimum of 2 years of technical accounting or SEC reporting as a primary responsibility.
    • ERP experience a plus.
    • Public and/or Big Four experience preferred
