Job Profile SummaryEnsures achievement of strategic revenue objectives for a specific product or product family. Researches market trends and needs. Articulates results in the form of product requirements. Plays a proactive role in product planning and design to ensure the product is differentiated from competitors in the marketplace. Develops content for marketing collateral and sales training to ensure successful product launches. Involved throughout the entire lifecycle of the product, working closely with development teams from product initiation to delivery to eventual product retirement.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic- medium level contributor to overall strategy.
- Tactical- medium contribution (if PA available).
- Manages the success of assigned products and develops requirements for future product releases.
- Creates Product Line Strategies.
- Develops business cases for new offerings.
- Researches and creates product requirements docs. Facilitates build vs. buy analysis.
- Works with Product Marketing Manager regarding company wide communications.
- Researches competitors’ products, assesses competitive advantages and determines what product features and functionality will be built. May be asked to mentor or coach other PM’s.
Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of the following domains: IT industry and product domain.
- Advanced understanding of business as it relates to the hosting industry.
- Advanced knowledge of product development life cycle with relevant experience in 1 or more phases.
Skills
- Develops content to ensure successful product launches.
- Involved throughout the entire lifecycle of the product, working closely with software development teams from product initiation to delivery to eventual product retirement.
- Owns Product Intake and executes projects as per product strategy.
- Provides input for development stories and acceptance criteria.
- Serves as a technical expert and point of contact for a given system domain and understands connecting systems.
- Provides a clear product vision to all stakeholders and owns product impacting decisions and rollout plans.
- Owns and maintains the product backlog/roadmap (not sprint backlog).
- Identifies MVP for project deliverables and defines the timeline approach.
- Responsible for defining and measuring product success through KPIs.
- Expert knowledge of the following domains: IT industry and product domain. Advanced understanding of business as it relates to the hosting industry.
- Excellent knowledge of product development life cycle with relevant experience in 2 or more phases. Proven ability to manage portfolio of projects.
- Ability to balance team resource loads to meet commitments and optimize output.
- Strategic- high level contributor to overall strategy.
- Creates Product Line Strategies with a focus on cross functional and/or cross domain product lines.
- Addresses the lifecycle interaction between multiple products through strategic planning.
- Determines methods and procedures for new assignments.
- May mentor and lead others.
- Bachelor’s degree required, plus 5 years related experience (technology and/or product management). BS in Technology or Business preferred. MBA preferred.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required. BS in Technology or Business preferred. MBA preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience
- 5-8 years related experience (technology and/or product management)
Physical Demands
- General office environment. Moderate levels of stress may occur at times. May require long periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor. No special physical demands required. Schedule flexibility to include working a weekend day regularly and holidays as required by the business for 24/7 operations.
Travel
- Occasional travel, less than 10%
