Director of Privacy - Go-to-Market and Trust

Austin, United StatesAustinTexasUnited StatesNorth AmericaMarch 16, 2026

Working at AtlassianAtlassian can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Assuming you have eligible working rights and a sufficient time zone overlap with your team, you can choose to work remotely or return to an office as they reopen (unless it’s necessary for your role to be performed in the office). Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company. We're looking for a talented Privacy Director to join our dynamic and collaborative legal team at Atlassian! You will have the opportunity to partner with all aspects of our organization to develop and implement innovative and customer-focused solutions to privacy and consumer protection issues that are impacting our customers, products, and business.

In This Role, You'll Get To:

    • Manage and build a growing team of individuals supporting Atlassian's go-to-market and trust work within our department - this work includes privacy support of regulated industries, enterprise sales, vendor agreements, mergers and integrations
    • Provide guidance on compliance with global privacy and data security laws, regulations and industry standards. We’re not looking for an academic analysis!
    • Translate customer needs into digestible asks for technical teams (engineering, product, security, etc.) to implement
    • Drive go-to-market strategy for privacy matters, including our response to emerging privacy laws and regulations
    • Support efforts to build trustworthy, data privacy-conscious products our customers love
    • Design scalable processes for implementation
    • Engage with the privacy legal community to understand evolving issues and to help Atlassian provide an industry-leading privacy program for our customers and stakeholders

More About You:

    • You have managed a team and are focused on supporting the growth and needs of employees who report to you
    • You build relationships with business stakeholders to strengthen the connection between our team and the business
    • You bring a customer-centric viewpoint, and are ready to join some of our largest and most complex customer negotiations to understand and address their privacy concerns
    • You can drive large strategic projects and manage current customer needs at the same time - you are capable of rolling your sleeves up to get work done (e.g., joining key customer calls), while also building for the future (e.g., building playbooks and customer collateral so there are less privacy escalations in the future)
    • You effectively navigate a decentralized and complex organization spread across the globe
    • You have experience establishing and driving team objectives to support broader business goals
    • You have a strong understanding of software technology and cloud services, associated business models, and technology industry trends
    • You’re keenly aware of product, privacy and data protection issues that our users - end users, organization administrators, developers, enterprise customers, or consumers - are likely focused on when considering or using our products
    • You think creatively beyond the “legal” box to generate possible solutions and options for the business, clearly articulating risk-based recommendations
    • You effectively communicate with the business to help them understand and follow the rules and parameters imposed by laws

On Your First Day, We'll Expect You To Have:

    • Admission to one state bar, preferably California
    • 10 + years practicing law
    • Experience managing a team of people
    • Passion to understand our customers, products, culture, and business model
    • Deep knowledge of applicable privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
    • Extensive experience working with go-to-market teams on privacy issues
    • A technical background isn’t required, but a basic understanding of software engineering is a definite plus, and an ability to quickly learn new business and technology concepts is necessary
