Corporate Counsel - Sales

Job Profile SummaryRackspace is looking for a talented Corporate Counsel to provide legal leadership and support to our US Sales Team. The successful candidate will report to the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Americas and will join a team of solution-orientated, collaborative lawyers and other professionals.  Rackspace is a leading IT company and supports flexible working practices for the benefit of its employees. 

Key Accountabilities

    • Acting as a Legal business partner and a dedicated legal advisor for our commercial transactions team, with a strong focus on sales. Build trust and drive strong relationships with internal stakeholders
    • Structuring, negotiating, and drafting sales contracts and related agreements, which range from standard contracts to bespoke, complex outsourcing transactions
    • Advising senior executives and other business team members on data protection and other contract-specific issues and risks relating to cloud computing, their impact, and mitigating actions
    • Reviewing and approving commercial contracts for the Americas region in accordance with Rackspace standard policies and procedures, escalating non-standard matters to the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel
    • Partnering with our International Legal teams to ensure we have a consistent global approach in the way we work with our sales teams
    • Assisting our International and other US Legal corporate services team from time to time in dealing with non-commercial transactional matters
    • Leading process improvement projects for Legal and working with our business stakeholders (e.g., Customer Service, Finance etc.) to deliver superior contract outcomes
    • Experience supporting Channel and/or Professional Services organizations a plus

Key Requirements

    • A JD degree and no less than 3 years of relevant law practice experience in region, through a large law firm, or combination of firm and private corporate settings
    • An active license or officially qualified or admitted to practice law as in-house counsel in the US
    • Extensive background in general IT law and data protection law with significant IT sector contract experience
    • Previous in-house legal experience working with sales teams in a global technology company.
    • A good understanding of cross jurisdictional issues that may arise when negotiating global agreements with multinational companies
    • Broad transactional background, including extensive general commercial contracting on sales contracts, intellectual property, data privacy and other regulatory matters
    • Excellent negotiation and drafting skills
    • Ability to build strong relationships with internal client and legal stakeholders and act as a business enabler
    • Confident in advising senior management on legal, risk and strategic issues with a willingness to challenge when required
    • Willing to accommodate out of hours work when required to support the US-based legal and Sales teams.  Flexible working is available.
    • Ability to simplify, problem solve, multitask and work effectively against deadlines and under pressure
    • Ability to work autonomously with independent thinking, as a legal leader
    • Excellent commercial and strategic business judgment, planning and organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Strong proficiency in technology, including the Internet, Email, Adobe, and Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

The anticipated starting pay range of Colorado applicants for this role is $96,100 - $124,600.  Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, licenses and certifications, and specific work location.
