Job Profile SummaryRepresents the company on legal matters as assigned. Prepares supporting legal documents, such as contracts, memoranda, corporate governance documentation, and other filings. Provides counsel to managers on legal matters impacting their areas of responsibility. May have a recognized area of legal expertise, such as employment, securities, finance, real estate, or intellectual property law.Responsible for supporting the Human Resources Department and assisting the Legal Department in managing and handling all U.S. labor and employment matters.  Manage and help run all aspects of litigation matters, in the US, Mexico and CanadaPreferred location for this role is in San Antonio, TX, but candidates from any Texas-based location may be considered to work remotely with travel to San Antonio on an as needed basis.

Key Responsibilities

    • Gives legal advice with respect to corporate administration; prepares corporate resolutions and forms; anticipates and guards against legal risks involving the company.
    • Reviews and approves advertising copy and PR statements from a legal standpoint.
    • Participates in legal actions of a somewhat sensitive and somewhat complex nature.
    • Studies proposed and existing legislation related to operations of the company and advises affected department.
    • Provide legal advice and support to HR stakeholders and business leaders on a broad range of employment issues such as policies and procedure, recruiting and hiring, employee relations, discipline and terminations, internal investigations, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, and restrictive covenants
    • Investigate and respond to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints and other employment related inquiries
    • Manage all aspects of litigation matters in the US, Mexico and Canada, including e-discovery, fact-finding and analysis, case management conferences, arbitration as well as retaining and managing outside counsel
    • Identifying and assessing legal risks and mitigation measures, determining litigation case strategy and defense
    • Remaining current on emergent labor and employment law developments and advising on impact to the Company and implementation of any necessary changes

    • General knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to corporations.

    • Ability to provide sound and practical legal advice, with proven success and experience with balancing legal risk with business objectives.

Education / Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • JD degree, with emphasis on corporate law and regulations required.
    • Usually requires 2+ years of legal experience.
    • 2+ years work experience as a licensed attorney advising on global and domestic employment matters preferred.
    • Experience in pre-litigation and litigation matters
