Associate Security Consultant - Vulnerability Management and Remediation (Remote, USA)

Join us.An Associate Security Consultant on the Vulnerability Management and Remediation team is an intermediate level advisor capable of performing basic Vulnerability Management analysis while maintaining a business focus and meeting client requirements. This position will work with technical oversite and mentorship as part of a team to analyze Vulnerability Management program functions and provide remediation advice while learning more advanced methodologies for triaging, prioritizing, and remediating vulnerabilities.  Applicants will be members of Optiv’s 2022 Associate Consultant cohort.  Entering the program will involve a mix of formal education, self-study, mentorship, and consultative delivery.  A successful candidate will get more out than they put in and will grow their career exponentially over the next two years.  As applicants progress through the program, they will have the opportunity to be promoted to consultants and develop a robust career path for years to come. 

How You'll Make An Impact

    • Analyze an organization’s vulnerability management (VM) program functions, including governance, operations, and technology, to determine program current state and gaps
    • Develop VM program components, including policies, procedures, technical designs, and roadmaps for improving program maturity
    • Deploy and configure VM platforms in accordance with documented technical design specifications
    • Assess an organization’s security posture using automated tools and manual techniques to define, triage, and prioritize vulnerabilities
    • Provide tactical and strategic, detailed remediation advice aimed at improving client’s security posture
    • Create comprehensive reports that identify existing vulnerabilities, average time to remediate, compensating controls and other key performance indicators
    • Interface with client personnel to gather information, clarify scope and provide consultative guidance
    • Execute projects using Optiv Security’s established methodology, tools, and documentation
    • Collaborate with other team members and practices to complete client projects and practice contributions
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    • Develop Source Zero research papers
    • Participate in industry conferences
    • Attend training programs led by Optiv’s Learning and Development Team
    • Work with mentors to further your technical as well as soft skills
    • Obtain VM technical certification

Qualifications for Success

    • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in Information Assurance, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related area of study; or four or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
    • 2 years of general Information Security experience preferred.
    • 1 years of practice specific experience preferred.
    • OSCP, OSCE, GIAC, CISSP certifications preferred.
    • Demonstrated aptitude for delivering projects using well-defined methodology across various network and/or application assessment disciplines
    • Ability to identify, describe and report vulnerabilities and standard remediation activities, to include clear demonstration of risk to clients through post-exploitation activities
    • Introductory Knowledge of commercial and open-source security tools required (e.g. Nessus, Nexpose, Qualys, Rapid7, Burp, Nmap, Wireshark, etc.)
    • Familiarity with different network and system devices and platforms required (e.g. Linux, Windows, Cisco, Oracle, Active Directory, JBoss, .NET, etc.) required.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
    • Must be able to work well with clients and self-manage through difficult situations, focus on client satisfaction.
    • Ability to convey complex technical security concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Ability to work both independently as well as on teams.
    • Demonstrated effective time management skills, ability to balance projects and self-study simultaneously.
    • Motivation to constantly improve personal technical and professional skills.
    • Basic knowledge of computer programing techniques and languages.
    • Willingness to collaborate and share knowledge with team members
    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
    • Ability to distill advanced security, networking, and investigative concepts down to principles that can be understood and applied by all audiences
    • Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
    • Basic understanding of computer languages
    • Strong problem-solving aptitude with ability to think clearly under pressure and in hostile environments
    • Display aptitude in identifying and understanding how systems and tools work in the absence of instructions or training
