Senior Principal Engineer - Data Center Platform

We are a growing high impact team empowering dozens of internal development teams building Data Center products and hundreds of external teams developing Marketplace Apps.Your future teamsWe're hiring Senior Principal Architect/Software Engineers to join our growing teams. We have open roles within two groups - Data Center Core and Data Center Jira. In Data Center Core, you will report to Senior Engineering Manager in Data Center Core to focus on our Security and Developer Productivity programs. This position would work across ~70 member development team building platform capabilities and tools helping our developers and support engineers and collaborate with architects across Atlassian to implement practices and policies. In Data Center Jira, you will report to the Senior Engineering Manager in Data Center Jira. In this role, you will focus on a technical strategy that aligns with the Data Center technical vision, guided by the Lead Principle Engineer, and bring it to reality across the Data Center Jira 80+ engineering organisation.It is a remote role in the EMEA region. To help our teams work together effectively, this role requires you to be located in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Poland, Turkey or the UK.

What you'll do

• Shape the forward-looking technical direction and long-term architecture for Data Center platform and Data Center products
• Use your deep technical skills to help guide and mentor other developers, product managers, and senior managers, ensuring the team understands the vision, and help realize that vision.
• Work with Data Center leadership and provide technical input on roadmap planning.
• Partner with principal engineers and architects from other teams and drive exploration of large-scale projects spanning multiple teams in Data Center
• Solve interesting, complex problems from technical design to launch.
• Improve, through example, the quality of software construction and meaningful code reviews in an agile environment.
• Be a role model for, and influence a large team of engineers at multiple seniority levels all the way from grads to principal engineers, and mentor engineers across the teams.
• Be influential within your team and work with peers and senior leaders to define and revise the standards for operational excellence across Atlassian.

Your background

• 10+ years of experience building software, with 4+ years in an architect/principal role working across teams
• Proficiency in Java or another JVM-based language. Working knowledge of OSGi will be a bonus. Experience in another object-oriented programming language is also acceptable, but you need to be willing to work with a Java tech stack.
• Broad experience architecting, designing, and building large-scale systems with multiple dependencies.
• Passion for building quality solutions and up-keeping quality standards.
• Success with building, expressing, and pitching a technical vision to stakeholders.
• Experience with collaboration with an ecosystem of teams
• Success with leading the long-term strategy for software architecture
• Experience with Enterprise Customers
• Experience in operational requirements and common challenges of software systems
• Experience working on developer productivity initiatives.
• Experience working on security and compliance-related features.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
