Built on Jira, it encompasses deeper service management practices across service request, incident, problem, change, knowledge, asset, and configuration management.We're looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our team, focused on delivering creative improvements for our engineering teams.About the team:You'll be part of the Jira Service Management(JSM) Product and will report to an Engineering Manager. You will build transformational features that directly impact customers and be strategic for Atlassian.As part of the JSM team, you will work with product managers and Architects, influencing the direction of the product and collaborating with the team to get there. You’ll write code and ship product capabilities that you are proud of and deliver amazing results that our customers love!What you'll do:Guide complex projects autonomously, from technical design to launch.Work with senior engineers on new architectures, and designs.Solve complex architectural challenges, apply architectural standards, and start using them on new projects.Lead code reviews, and documentation and take on complex bug fixes, especially on high-risk problems.Be an example and raise the bar high for code reviews.Partner across engineering teams to solve dependencies.Mentor junior members of the team.

What we are looking for

• 8+ years of experience developing backend applications.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Senior-level experience with one or more prominent languages such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or Scala is required.
• Understanding of the SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS industry with hands-on experience with public cloud offerings (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Fluency in any one database technology (e.g. RDBMS like Oracle or Postgres or NoSQL like DynamoDB or Cassandra).
• Familiarity with industry-standard monitoring systems (e.g.: Splunk, SignalFx, DataDog, and New Relic).
• Experience creating and implementing well-tested, scalable, performant micro-services and other distributed systems.
• Experience with true continuous delivery to a production system.
• Practical knowledge of Agile software development methodologies (e.g., XP, scrum).
• Expert in cloud architecture patterns and an engineering discipline to produce software with quality.
• Knowledge to evaluate trade-offs between correctness, robustness, performance, space, and time.
• Practice mentoring other engineers and influencing decision makers throughout the organization.
• Consider customer impact when making technical decisions.
