Principal Software Engineer, Search Platform

Whatever your preference—working from home, an office, or in between— you can choose the place that's best for your work and your lifestyle.To help our teams work together effectively, you will be fully remote, but would require you to be located in India.We're looking for a Tech Lead Engineer to join our team, focused on delivering creative improvements for our engineering teams.You'll be part of the Search Platform and report to a Senior Engineering Manager. There are multiple teams in Search Platform and the role will require close coordination with teams currently based in Australia.Search Platform powers the search engine behind Atlassian products. The team is tasked with the mission to provide reliable Infrastructure, a consistent user experience while improving the accuracy of results. As Atlassian client base grows in number and content volume for clients grow, search is becoming an ever exciting and challenging engineering domain.

What you'll do:

• Regularly tackle the largest and most complex problems on the team, from technical design to launch
• Determine plans-of-attack on large projects
• Work with project plans and ensure teams are unblocked for execution, anticipating issues and proposing mitigation steps.
• De-Risk complex tasks with prototypes, and multi team coordination activities
• Partner across engineering teams to take on company-wide initiatives spanning multiple projects
• Lead code reviews & documentation as well as take on complex bug fixes, especially on high-risk problems
• Mentor junior members of the team
• Routinely tackle complex architecture challenges and apply architectural standards and start using them on new projects

Your background:

• 11+ years experience in multiple hands-on software/technology leadership roles, with end-to-end responsibility through the software development lifecycle
• A proven track record of driving and delivering large (multi-person or multi-team) and complex efforts-  architecting, designing, and building large-scale distributed systems.
• Focus on execution to lead the long term vision and strategy.
• Bachelor's degree with a preference for Computer Science degree
• Great communicator and maintain cross-team and cross-functional relationships
• Expertise with one or more prominent languages such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or TypeScript is required.
• Understanding of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS industry with hands-on experience with public cloud offerings (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Java, Spring, REST, and NoSQL databases
• Experience building event-driven based on SQS, SNS, Kafka or equivalent technologies
• Knowledge to evaluate trade-offs between correctness, robustness, performance, space and time
• Practice in mentoring other engineers and influencing decision makers throughout the organization
• Considers the customer impact when making technical decisions

If you've got these skills, even better:

• Experience in ElasticSearch, OpenSearch or other search engine technologies
• Experience in Developer Experience or Developer Productivity
• Proficiency in Java
• Experience in at least one additional language
• Experience in CI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Deployment)
