Principal Database Software Engineer

You will join the Jira Cloud team, owning the Jira Cloud Issue Search capability that is fundamental for several Jira key experiences like Scrum and Agile Boards, navigation, findability, Jira Work Management and others. Team is focused on improving the scalability of the current architecture to meet the demand of our largest customers on their migration to Jira Cloud. This work enables decomposition efforts to build highly scalable Jira Issue Search engine. You are going to keep exploring new ideas on enhancing product scalability, improving the system design and its data model and access patterns, solving really hard performance puzzles, and making the data-driven decisions based on the measured impact. Jira product is used by millions of users across the globe, and this work gives you opportunities to impact them all, helping unleashing the potential of every team.As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll act as a technical leader with your teams and help define the tactical approach and build the architectural vision behind our products. You will work with other Issue Search, Jira Platform and experience teams, architects, engineering, product, and program managers. As we use a "you build it, you run it" (YBIYRI) approach in all Cloud teams, you'll demonstrate an excellence in operational maturity, and drive the team to define and deliver on reliability, scalability, and latency goals.

• Guide projects independently, from technical design to launch.
• Design infrastructure solutions for scalability, reliability, high availability, performance, security, software maintainability, and operational excellence.
• Inspire creativity by coming up with new ideas for our products and processes
• Grow in proficiency and help to grow other developers.
• Be mentor and lead by example to help build an awesome team.
• Contribute to code reviews and documentation and take on complex bug fixes.
• Tackle difficult scalability and performance problems and find new better solutions.

What we expect from you:

• Min. 5 years of professional experience and min. 3 years of Postgresql database experience.
• Deep expertise in scalability and performance tuning, good understanding of Postgresql internals.
• Good knowledge of Java (or other OOP language).
• Architectural understanding of web applications.
• Knowledge in some back-end technologies such as Spring, Hibernate, SQL.
• Expertise in full text search engines would be a good advantage
• Proficient English (both spoken and written).
• Have knowledge of writing robust and reliable systems.
• Can ensure a high bar of performance, quality, and security while developing a product.
